I mean teardrop to our "Garden Party" There are Plenty of "Signs" that say you should be there this year. Sand Hollow Spring Weekend Jubilee ~ May 15th and 16th
Be sure to join us for a fun filled weekend in beautiful Southern Utah! at Sand Hollow Reservoir just East of St. George. The lake is only 119 miles from Vegas and the weather in St George is B-E-utiful during this time of year. We will camp, canoe and kayak, catch some great big bass, and maybe get out for a quick hike in Zion National Park which is just a short distance away. Campsites include full hook-ups, covered picnic areas, restrooms are new and clean, and the hot showers are fantastic! Bring your tent, trailer, or cot. The nights are calm and clear.
Camping at Mount Charleston ~ June 11th, 12th, 13th
We will again be camping out at Mount Charleston this summer. Maybe not at Hilltop, but we will let you know which campground we will be staying at. It's a cool getaway from the heat of our Las Vegas Summers and a welcome chance to sit around a fire and enjoy eachother's company. All while being just a short distance from town. Join us for the weekend or just for a great Dutch Oven Society lunch.
THEEEEEE BULLHEAD REEEEEGATTTTTTTAAAA!
August 13th and 14th
Come with us this year for the 5th Annual Bullhead City's Colorado River Regatta. Join the more than 4700 tubers, floaters, cabanaers, canoers, riverboaters. drunkards, drowners, partiers, players, and astronaughts, as we all float a gentle 11 mile stretch of the Colorado River from Bull head City, through the Big Bend, and on to Rotary Park.
Room rates are fantastic for this event, and Laughlin hotels offer great packages for rooms and Regatta entries. We plan to stay at The Edgewater but we will keep members posted on who will offer the Las Vegas Canoe Club the best package deal.
Echo Canyon State Park ~ September 18th, 19th
We plan to visit central Nevada this year for Plugs and Paddles IV. Echo Canyon State Park and Spring Valley State Park has been chosen for the location this year, With two great lakes to chose from, the canoeing and fishing opportunities are incredible. The campgrounds are clean, inexpensive, and close to the lakes. Other lodging options include cabins or trailers at Pat and John's Eagle Valley Resort (they have Poker Machines and Karaoke too!) or there are hotels for the timid just up the road in Pioche.
Rainbow Trout, Bass, Crappie, Tiger and Brown Trout abound in these lakes and it is a perfect spot for the kids and beginning anglers because the fish are srtrong and eager to take a hook or lure. Restrooms with flushing toilets and fish cleaning stations are available next to the lakes as well as group picnic areas and the Eagle Valley Resort General Store is just minutes away.
Sawmill Picnic ~ September 11th
There is a picnic at the Sawmill Campground up on Mount Charleston September 11th. I believe this is a Dutch Oven Society event, but they don't mind when we crash ( I don't think so anyway).
Scariest Dam Trip II ~ October 31st
This is a two day float down the Colorado River. Starting at Hoover Dam we make our way down the Colorado to the Arizona Hot Springs where we can camp and soak all the scary ghouls away. Fishing, hiking, birdwatching, and great photo opportunities, are all on the itinerary, as well as a possible foray into the sacred Indian world of the Sauna Cave....... Bighorn Sheep are sure to be seen on this trip as well as a chance to catch some monster fish.
Boulder Beach Canoe Club Campout ~ December 4th
We are sure to take advantage of our mild December Weather and strong Striper Bite during the first week of December when we camp, canoe, and fish, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area from Boulder Beach and Lake Mead Bay. Boulder Beach has a stunning campground that has been revamped in the recent years. Join us for some great camping and canoeing close to home.
New Years Eve ~ December 31st
We end our year (or begin a New One) with a New Years Eve Campout at Callville Bay with out friends from the Las Vegas dutch Oven Society. Canoes are optional but reccommended. The weather is usually mildly chilly in the morning, but it warms up nicely enough during the day for a nice paddle in the bay. The fishing from Callville Bay is good for both largemouth Bass and Striped Bass and the bay is protected enough that even the most novice paddler should have no fears.
Remember that Canoe Rentals are ALWAYS Available at a reasonable cost to our members!
Paddling Lessons, Camping and Fishing Advice, Maps, Moonlight, and Gator's Jokes... are always free.
Here's to a Great Year!
